Job Creation

The state’s current unemployment rate is unacceptable. I have spoken with a troubling number of friends and neighbors who have either had their hours cut or have lost their jobs altogether. To reverse this trend, we must:

1. provide financial incentives to business that hire new workers
2. provide financial incentives to businesses that invest in green technology
3. attract new businesses and retain those that call Illinois home
4. invest in infrastructure to create a more attractive business climate

Balancing the Budget

For far too long politicians in Springfield have been serving the needs of special interests and leaving us with the bill. Even after passing a massive tax hike, the State of Illinois is still faced with a structural deficit as well as billions of dollars of unpaid bills. Everyday families are faced with financial realities that force them to make difficult decisions and live within their means and it is time for our elected officials to do the same. Working people don’t have the luxury of operating with an unbalanced budget and that state should follow suit.

In order to get our state’s fiscal house in order we must take certain specific actions:

1. overall spending must be reduced to fall in line with revenues
2. a mandatory waiting period must be put in place for citizens to review proposed budgets before legislative action can be taken
3. government programs must be audited not only individually, but relative to each other in order to eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies
4. fraud and patronage in the procurement process must be eliminated

The State of Illinois suffers from a culture of corruption. In the last century, five Illinois Governors have been arrested for corruption, including the last two. As a result of this breach of trust, people have lost faith in government and lost interest in participating in the democratic process. We must restore the public's faith in government by eliminating this culture of corruption and bringing integrity back to Springfield.
